To maximize the battery life of your watch, try the following tips:
TRY CHANGING TO A DIFFERENT WATCH FACE
Some watch faces, especially those with animations or interactive abilities and brighter colors, use up more battery life than others.
ADJUST SCREEN BRIGHTNESS
The brighter your watch screen, the more battery your watch will use. Turn down your watch screen brightness to save more battery power.
TURN OFF NOTIFICATIONS YOU DON'T WANT
Turning off notifications can save your battery.
See "HOW DO I BLOCK NOTIFICATIONS?" to learn how to block notifications.
TURN ON THEATER MODE
Turn off the display and notifications by turning Theater mode on temporarily.
See "HOW DO I USE THEATER MODE?" to learn how to turn on theater mode.
UNINSTALL APPS
If you recently installed an app and notice that your battery is draining faster than normal, try uninstalling that app. To uninstall an app on your watch, you need to uninstall the app from the phone your watch is paired with.
LIMIT WI-FI USE
If your watch is Wi-Fi enabled, you can save battery life by adjusting the amount of time your watch can use Wi-Fi.
TURN OFF ALWAYS ON FEATURE
Turn off the always on screen feature to save battery life. You can set the display to show the time or turn off completely when you're not using the watch. If set to turn off, the screen will turn on when you turn your wrist or touch the screen.
Here's how to change the setting from your phone:
- On your phone, open the Wear OS by Google app.
- Touch Settings.
- Find Always-on screen and use the switch to turn on or off.
From your watch:
- If your screen is dim, touch the screen to wake up the watch.
- Swipe down from the top of the screen.
- Swipe from right to left until you see Settings and then, touch it.
- Touch Always-on screen to turn on or off.

Hello,
I bought the fossil gen 5 watch 2 months ago. Battery life wasn't great to start with but I have been playing with the settings for a month with not success. 2 weeks ago my watch started to not wake up and it require me to hold all 3 buttons to hard reset the device. As of last week, my watch goes from 100% to 20% within 4hrs. I have only 1 app (heart monitor) on the device. My work require my watch to be off during I work and it seems the battery suffer most when it's not on my wrist? Please help, I have done all I can with battery settings by turning almost everything to off. Coming from other smart watches, I don't believe consumers should have to turn everything off just to not survive the normal 8 hour work day.
Very poor battery life in Gen 4 , I brought it today . Only in a single use I felt Soo .. Any suggestions to improve battery life .. thank u
Battery Life on my Fossil Sport has been abysmal lately. Earlier it used to last a full working day with extended mode - not the days like the phone suggests. Now, it turns off in few hours, and will not power on with power button. When I place it on the charger it starts up and shows around 55%, and interestingly date is RESET to 1 Jan (Thu) 16:00 hrs. In a minute or so, after it has synchronized the time it will show correct date and time. If I immediately take it off dock, it will work for a while before going off. This time it shows a lower charge level when place on the charger.
I have checked system udpate, and it says its on latest SW. The watch is less than 1.5yrs in use, and this huge capacity degradation and switching off at 55% is simply unacceptable!
I recommend that everyone just let others know that factually Fossil made a very poor product. The service is equally poor. 2 months more trying to resolve matters.
The product is poor quality on two fronts.
When put on dock, the battery will start with a high charge level, sometimes even 98% and then while charging the charge % will decrease first before it starts to increase!
This is either a callibration issue with the charge estimation algortihm, or it is getting skewed due to bad voltage data from the cell. Since it reduces even while charging, I am guessing the charge estimation is voltage based, and is starting up wrong at power on due to bad voltage reading from cell at charger connect, and then adjusts to the settled down voltage.
After 17 months it lasts not even 6 hours, that too with Wifi-off, location-off, assistant-off, nfc-off.
@Fossil, I saw your email a few days later, and I have responded with more details on the issue. I am waiting to hear from you guys.
I've had my Gen 4 today and the battery life has been all over the place. At first it was terrible, then I seemed to get it under control, but for the past week it's been horrible, basically dying within about 8 hours and with very little active use. On top of the battery issues, it consistently has connection issues and shows no connection even though the Wear OS app on the phone shows that it is connected, not to mention Google Fit can't seen to connect to the watch for heart data. I'm not even getting the function of a normal watch out of this device, let alone the smartwatch functionality that I thought I was buying. I might have to go back to my old Samsung Gear Fit 2 Pro. That was a champ on battery life and just about everything else I wanted from a smart watch. My Gen 4 was supposed to be an upgrade, but I'm seriously disappointed.
I received my gen 4 yesterday.
I charged it.
I then set it up, I was the owner of a galaxy S2 classic prior so know turning off a lot of features such as WiFi/NFC/screen brightness/auto update/auto sync etc... This used to give me 48hrs on my Samsung, I didn't even make it through the night on my gen 4 fossil.
Any suggestions? Will fossil take these back as faulty/not fit for purpose?
I just received a Filson Sport today and I can barely get 3 hours of life out of it. Been trying updates, turning down settings, disconnecting connectivity. I'll be lucky to squeeze 5 at full charge if I DON'T use it. Incredibly disappointing. Did all the steps above and then some. Now what?
Hello,
I had contacted about an issue with my watch 2 months ago (Jul 8). I did everything I could and followed all the instruction that was given to me. The emails were quick but when I asked for a refund (within the return timeline) instead of an exchange... I stopped receiving replies. Now the watch gets extremely hot when it charges and it does not even fully charge. I have stopped wearing the watch due to suspicion of the watch being so hot. I had contacted the person I was talking to previously but with no success. At this point, I lost hope to not just the Gen 5 being defective but the overall company of Fossil. This is unacceptable.
I've had a Gen 5 since it came out, and have consistently gotten through a day with between 30% and 10% power left. Since the last update, however, I don't even make it 3/4 of the day before it dies. I've made absolutely no changes to my apps, settings, or usage (if anything, I'm using it less because of the issues). This is ridiculous and unless something changes, I'm gone, never coming back, and will do whatever I can to steer people away from Fossil in the future.
Hi Dan,
I'm so sorry for the incomplete experience you've been through with our smartwatch :(
I've created a ticket for you, please allow 1-2 working days for our technical agents to contact you regarding the battery issue!
Yesterday I received fossil 4th gen smart watch ...but battery is worst... wastage of money
Please suggest for better experience
I've had my Gen 5 for about a year now and I stopped using it for 4 months now because it's basically useless as a smartwatch. My battery average is 5 to 4 hours with all the suggestion above, I really have tried to like this watch but it has really been a disappoinment. I am back to my Gear 3 watch.
I have had my Gen 5 for months now. Sometimes the battery dies early for no known reason. Last night I charged it most of the way (80-90 percent) and it made it about 4.5 hours before it switched to Extended Mode. I got up this morning and charged it fully before work and it lasted two whole hours before switching to Extended Mode. It has been less than six hours since it was fully charged and my watch is currently at 7 percent. It lasted just fine through yesterday and I have not changed anything in the last two days. When I bought the watch I knew I would need to charge it daily, but needing to charge it every two hours is more than a little excessive. Does anyone know how to fix this?
Really my worst ever purchase!
Being Other Brands which half of GEN5 Price is giving 10,15,20 days Battery and we here not even getting 4-5 hours, HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED
Cant they refund my money or fix something in WEAROS? :(
I have tried replacing the watch under warranty without any luck of fixing battery drain under Bluetooth, I just use my watch now with Bluetooth turned off. Kind of defies the purpose of a smart watch ..but I guess I have learnt a lesson by buying a bad product .. LL never buy fossil ever again and LL recommend others to not buy fossil.
Hello Team
I have a fossil gen 5 watch and the battery is the worst. 2 times a day I need to charge it.
1. Just 3 apps are allowed to receive notification
2. No tilt wakeup feature enabled
3. No touch to wakeup feature enabled
4. No fitness-related activities are enabled
5. Bluetooth is scheduled to turn on between 8 am to 8 pm
6 Wrist gesture is disabled
still 2 times in a day I need to charge and when it is connected to the mobile battery will drain out like a toss.
How to manage this? Really fed up with charging twice, thrice ina day..
ON TOP NO REPLY FROM THIS FOSSIL GUYS. REALLY A BAD EXPERIENCE.
